Dive into the past of a unique city

An event that brings to light the history and culture of the early 1900s, but not only.

A historical reenactment that aims to recreate the atmosphere of the early 20th-century industrial era in Schio's historic center, a golden age for the city that made Schio one of Italy's most important wool-producing centers, so much so that it was compared to Manchester in England. The event features themed activities in the main streets of the center and in key locations along Schio Rossiana, such as the Jacquard Garden, the Rossi Nursery, the Fabbrica Alta Park, Via Carducci, and Via Pasubio, known as "Sareo."

COMING SOON EVENT PROGRAM

Schio, the Manchester of Italy

The history of Schio is inextricably linked to the figure of Alessandro Rossi and the industrial archaeology of the early 1900s, a period during which the city flourished socially, economically, and culturally.
Schio is one of Italy's leading wool hubs: wool production had long been a part of the Schio economy; since the 12th century, wool processing complemented farming within families, thus developing technical knowledge, capital movement, trade, and mercantile and entrepreneurial skills. Precisely because of its powerful wool industry, the city was dubbed the "Manchester" of Italy: a strong connection with Anglo-Saxon culture that remains even today. Alessandro Rossi himself and his colleagues made countless trips across the Channel, also participating in numerous initiatives such as the London Expo. Much of the evidence found in the Schio area dates back to Rossi's era, as the entrepreneur undertook various infrastructure development projects in the area and developed a substantial network of institutions and agencies aimed at managing and controlling the rapidly growing workforce.

The Schio Project, Italy's Manchester, aims to bring to life the atmosphere of that era, including lavish bourgeois gatherings, the working days of the Fabbrica Alta workers, and the simple life of the villagers. A journey back in time at the foot of the Piccole Dolomiti Vicentine.
